Caterpillar Room

Within the Caterpillar room, the caring and experienced team fully support the children in learning those fundamental skills, to support them to reach their full potential, getting them ready to move on, into the Butterfly room.

The children enjoy a variety of activities, from arts and crafts, role-playing, construction, small world play, exploring the reading area where there are endless amounts of stories and puppets and sensory seeking through lots of sensory, auditory and visual play, and so much more.

In Caterpillar Room we love to explore, experiment, and try things out, ensuring all aspects of our environment is tailored to develop every child's curiosity, offering the ideal environment for inquisitive children to have lots of fun and learn new skills.

We have nappy changing facilities as well, as child sized toilets and work in partnership with parents, to help with toilet training.

We have nap time facilities for those children whose day has been extremely busy and may need a little rest.

The children have access to the outdoor area throughout the day, come rain or shine, using the free-flow system, ensuring the garden is full of endless opportunities for them to learn, play and discover too.

The Caterpillar Room provides a warm, enabling, homely environment which is well-resourced, in all areas, providing endless exciting, opportunities to learn, play and explore in all areas of their learning and development, we support this by individual planning and providing both focused and spontaneous activities for them to engage with and explore, as well as encouraging child-initiated play.

We plan and provide lots of other exciting and wonderful opportunities, such as the early talk boost programs, weekly cooking classes, dancing and movement, and yoga sessions, and continuous explorative play, as well as our new and currently “under development” sensory area.

We encourage the children to discover their own independence through learning, such as a low level pegs, helping them with their bags, coats and shoes, washing their hands, toileting, using the nose blowing station, and accessing the water station where they are able to pour their own water, as well as begin to help serve themselves during our family style healthy breakfast bar, snack bar system, lunch and tea, knowing an adult is close by for help and support.
